CLTCC to host Manufacturing Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 30

Students and public invited to meet local manufacturers

Alexandria, La., Oct. 22, 2018 -- Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) Alexandria Campus will host a Manufacturing Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 30 as part of a month-long celebration of the industry that began on Oct. 5, National Manufacturing Day, the first Friday in October.  Thousands of manufacturers across the nation participate in Manufacturing Day events by hosting open houses, public tours, career workshops and other events.

CLTCC, local manufacturing companies, economic development groups and other organizations are joining forces in a large exposition to educate and inspire the next generation, share with them how manufacturing looks today, and encourage job seekers to develop the skills they need to qualify for long-term careers in this particular industry.  One of the most pressing challenges facing this industry is a shortage of skilled labor.  Approximately 80 percent of manufacturers cannot find the skilled workers they need.

This expo will give manufacturers an opportunity to dispel myths about jobs in their industry, and it will give students and parents an opportunity to ask questions and learn about careers and salaries in manufacturing.

CLTCC students as well as students from area high schools are invited to talk with local manufacturers from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The public is invited from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  The expo will be at the Alexandria Campus (4311 S. MacArthur Drive) in the Student Canteen.

Representatives from AFCO Industries, Baker Manufacturing, Boise Cascade, Cleco, RoyOMartin, Union Tank, CLEDA, and Louisiana Job Connections are scheduled to participate.
