What is a New Student Orientation?
Think of orientation as a crash course in becoming a CLTCC student. It's a comprehensive introduction designed to enable your success as you begin your academic journey at one of our five campuses across Central Louisiana.
The Importance of Attending Orientation
Attending your CLTCC orientation offers numerous benefits beyond seeing the campus itself. Here are four essential reasons why participating in orientation is crucial for incoming students:
It sets you up for academic success.
Orientation sessions typically cover essential topics like course registration, getting to know the campus layout, and navigating online tools you'll use throughout your time at CLTCC. You'll learn about the LoLA student portal, the CLTCC mobile app, and other digital resources that will be vital to your academic success.
Connect with students and faculty.
One of the biggest anxieties for incoming college students is making connections. Orientation provides a fantastic platform to meet classmates, current students, and instructors in a relaxed setting. You might even form study groups or friend circles that last throughout your college years.
Learn about campus resources.
CLTCC provides various resources for student success, such as career services, tutoring, and the library's electronic resources. During orientation, you will be introduced to all the valuable tools available and learn how to access them when needed, including counseling services and financial aid support.
Get to know campus life.
Orientation is a great way to get a sense of CLTCC's unique culture and traditions and determine whether it fits you. You'll learn about student organizations and technical program specifics.
Program-Specific Orientations
Nursing and Allied Health Program Orientations
In addition to the general new student orientation, several CLTCC campuses offer specialized orientations for students entering Nursing and Allied Health programs. These program-specific orientations provide detailed information about:
- Program-specific requirements and expectations
- Clinical experience procedures
- Healthcare protocols and safety standards
- Specialized equipment and technology training
- Uniform and supply requirements
- Licensure and certification preparation
- Career services specific to healthcare fields
Students accepted into Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Patient Care Technician, and other Allied Health programs should check their CLTCC email regularly for information about these additional mandatory program orientations. These specialized sessions are typically scheduled after the general orientation and before classes begin.
Please note that attendance at these program-specific orientations is mandatory for all Nursing and Allied Health students. Missing a program-specific orientation may impact your ability to begin the program as scheduled.
