Natchitoches, La., July 18, 2017 — The Natchitoches Campus of Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) has had a successful cosmetology program. Cosmetology takes one year to fifteen months to complete and prepares students to become licensed cosmetologists. Students are trained not only on hair, but they also learn about makeup and nails.

This summer Rayneisha Harris completed the 1500 hours needed to take the written and practical exam in Baton Rouge to earn her license. Rayneisha is a gifted student who believes “cosmetology is an avenue, a stepping stone, and a pathway to success.” Because the cosmetology license covers a wide range of careers there are a lot of opportunities in this industry.

While braiding a little girl’s hair, Rayneisha said she realized she was good with hair and that cosmetology was a career that would allow to give back. The past year-and-a-half have not been easy for her raising two children and attending college full-time. However, she has persevered. “It has been amazing watching this young lady transform into a professional cosmetologist,” said Petula Holden, Cosmetology Instructor. “I admire her strength, and her willingness to tackle any challenge.”

Cosmetology requires commitment and determination, not only in school, but also in the field. After graduation Rayneisha will build a client base, focus on marketing, and continue to learn as new techniques and ideas emerge. For individuals interested in following their dreams or pursuing a new career, “You must be determined and never give up,” said Harris. “Think about your destiny. The key to life is to never give up on yourself even when people are against you. Keep pushing. You cannot satisfy everyone, stand firm in what you believe you can do. No matter how old you are, don’t let your past define who you are.”

The faculty and staff at the Natchitoches Campus are excited about this next chapter in Rayneisha’s life. As she takes her state licensing exam and starts her career, we look forward to celebrating her successes!
