Student Name: Joseph Stephens
College: Central Louisiana Technical Community College

Student’s Background: Joseph is one of two Louisiana National Guard soldiers accepted into the CB&I Industrial Electrical program at the Lamar Salter Campus in Leesville. He is a member of the 2-108th Cavalry Squadron headquartered in Shreveport, La. Joseph joined the national guard right after high school, and he is currently completing a six-year commitment. He was the first graduate of the program’s first cohort to get a position at the CB&I Chiyoda Joint Venture (CCJV) Project in Hackberry, La.

Credential Earned: Certificate of Technical Students and National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Level 4, May 2017.

Outcome: Joseph is currently employed at CCJV for CB&I. His supervisors and foreman have reported that he is one of the best trained workers they have had from a craft development training program.


Student Name: Jessica Solis
College: Central Louisiana Technical Community College

Student’s Background: Jessica migrated to Jena from California when she was 26-years-old. Her nursing career began when she earned her Certified Nurse Assistant License in 2015 from the Rod Brady Campus in Jena. Today, Jessica is a Licensed Practical Nurse (PN), and a SkillsUSA gold medalist. Jessica participated in this year’s annual SkillsUSA National Championships in Kentucky, and she won a gold medal in medical math where contestants demonstrate their knowledge of general math concepts used in the healthcare fields.

Credential Earned: Technical Diploma in Practical Nursing, May 2017

Outcome: Jessica passed the NCLEX-PN, and she is now a Licensed Practical Nurse at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania, La.


Student Name: Caitlin Baily
College: Central Louisiana Technical Community College

Student’s Background: Caitlin was born with congenital Biliary Atresia disease. This disease is a blockage in the tubes that carry a liquid called bile from the liver to the gallbladder, and it only affects infants. Thus, Caitlin had her first surgery when she was just eight days old. She never let her chronic liver disease slow her down and eventually realized what she wanted to be when she enrolled in nursing at the Ferriday Campus.

Credential Earned: Technical Diploma in Practical Nursing, May 2017

Outcome: Caitlin passed the NCLEX-PN licensure examination and is employed at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena as a staff LPN.
